Fremantle Octopus

For those of you that have tried octopus and have not been “blown away” by one of the best eating seafood products in the ocean, I strongly urge you to try some from the “Fremantle Octopus Company”.These creatures are the true "rockstar' of the ocean, living fast and dying young!!Estimates have them growing to around 2kg average within a life span of just 18 months. They also reach sexual maturity at a very early age ensuring successful production of the next generation of octopus.

Established in 2000 by brothers Ross and Craig Cammilleri, the Fremantle Octopus Company is at the forefront of sustainable harvesting and processing of Australia’s best eating octopus.

Key features include:

-      - 100% sustainable. The octopus are caught using a trigger pot which is essentially a container housing a rubber crab bait. When the octopus sees the bait it enters the pot and upon pulling at the bait the entry door closes, leaving the octopus trapped. The trap is pulled to the surface the next day where it is processed and put into a salt water slurry. This capture method yields no by catch and any small octopus can be returned to the sea unharmed. This form of pot fishing leaves the ocean floor undamaged as is NOT the case with most other global octopus fishing which is by way of trawling.

-       - The octopus diet consists of live lobster, crabs, prawns and scallops. A diet fit for a king! Their diet is reflected in the flavour of the octopus meat.

-       - Fremantle Octopus offers stunning visual appeal with red suction capped tentacles and a snowy white texture yielding lobster like meat inside.
